Breathing and swimming is everything! Being able to have breath control, and "bob" for an infinite number of times is the first required skill to have in order to swim well.

Body position is the next most significant thing to establish.

Kicking to extend the glides on both the front and the back are now the goals.

Fun and variety are part of the repertoire.

Flexibility, Strength Endurance and Technique are the next factors that affect how well you swim and how comfortable you will become in and around the water. A great variety of aquatic activities can be part of a healthy lifestyle.

Crawl Stroke, Backstroke, Breaststroke and the Butterfly can now be presented and developed. Extended swimming, and technique refinement in all strokes and turns can also be a long term goal if competitive swimming is in the future.

Safety First. The old adage of never swim alone is still true to this very day. Be cognizant of your environment. Simple things like knowing where the nearest phone is, might one day be crucial. Is there an emergency plan or facilities for first aid at the places you frequent recreationally? Are you prepared? Remember what trimming a boat means? Yes, to put things into order and priority always gives a slightly more realistic point of view to be aware of. Remember, everyone is different, and everyone acts differently in emergency situations, especially first responders. Remember your own limitations. Respect the water!
