October 2007

Yet again we've let a year pass since our last newsletter, but the absence has made our hearts grow so much fonder. We've got quite a bit to share with you, from this year's halloween project "Eerie Eats" to introducing some employees and oh yeah, a little peek at what we've been up to. We do work sometimes you know.

Asking the hard hitting questions.
We've got some new folks (Deanna and Veronica) at the office and felt it was about time to get up close and personal with not only the new guys, but us old OYGers as well. Here is a truly indepth look at who we are and what makes us tick. Oh and also a look at our new business cards. They're pop-ups!

What sort of “treat” for Halloween would you like? All things dark and chocolaty. Mounds Coconut and Almond bar. Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. The darker the better. Homemade pop-corn balls. Rice Krispie treats, candy corn, anything that doesn’t have a razor in it.
rule
What is/was your favorite halloween costume? My mom made me a robot costume out of old appliance boxes, She cut holes in the front of the boxes and taped a trash bag to the inside. The slot said “Deposit Candy Here.” It was the clumsiest, most ridiculous costume I’ve ever worn. A split between Leonardo from TMNT or a ninja.

Anything dark and scary – Bride of Frankenstein, Vampire, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac.

At the East Village parade this man went as "old man reading paper." He had a folding chair and a paper and he would sit smack in the middle of the parade and read the paper.

One year, this little kid came trick-or-treating but was dressed normally. Obviously he was denied candy for his lack of costume, but then he said he was dressed-up as a free-loader. That kid is my hero.

What scares you? Horror movies with possessed children. Strangers, people on the subway, Red Hook, the employees of Fall Café, I can go on forever… Big bugs, the undertow, lockjaw. Rubber bands. Sharks, even if I’m in a pool.

I’d like to se (insert name of coworker) dressed as a _____ this Halloween. Veronica dressed as a bear this Halloween. I’d like to see Veronica dressed as a white ball from Pacman and then have Michael dress up as Pacman and eat her.

Tammy/Holly Hobby

Leon/Vampire from Vegas

Deanna/Zombie Unicorn

Veronica/Amy Winehouse

Leon / Mr Met

Deanna / Evil Mary K Lady

Veronica / He Who Shall Not Be Named

Mary / Wednesday
(the day of the week or the character - I'd take either)

Leon dressed as Baby Spice this Halloween.

goes cube / frauke / The Jones Street Boys / EarFarm
While not tremendously musically inclined ourselves, we do enjoy working with local Brooklyn bands -- from websites for rock-trio Goes Cube, and indie-something or others Frauke to album art for The Jones Street Boys. We also created a bunch of flyers and posters like this one for ear farm, or this one, or this one.

penobscot

Penobscot Bay History Online
Ok so this site actually launched last year but it recently won an Honorable Mention in a publications contest sponsored by the New England Museum Association. It was cited as "Best Local History Website."

cookthink
OYG recently completed branding and website design for a wonderfully delicious new recipe site- cookthink. The site introduces you to a new way to find the perfect recipe! Programmed in Ruby on Rails with an Ajax interface, the site is really neat (and tasty!)
Hello Cupcake
More branding, and this time with frosting on top! Look for a new website to match the beautiful logo and packaging that we've created for DC-based cup cake bakery Hello Cupcake.
Sonoma and Mendocino
We recently launched two sites for sister restaurants in the DC area.

Well thanks for joining us for an update.

Cheers!
