Will Draw for Food Wrap Up

Thank you!
Hello everyone! We were so excited and touched by the number of generous people who donated to the New York City Food Bank through Will Draw for Food. It really meant a lot to us. We also want to thank all of the artists who took time out of their busy day to help us draw 194 food inspired pictures. You are the BEST and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Two days before the event OrangeYouGlad tweeted at Ed Emberley, asking if he’d like to donate a drawing or two. Because Twitter is magical, he noticed our message and hosted his own family draw-a-thon over Thanksgiving. Four lucky donors will receive drawings from Ed Emberley, Rebecca Emberley, Michael Emberley, and Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick! How cool is that? Thank you Emberleys!

Finally, we’d like to thank our corporate donors: Social Guide for donating money for supplies, The Wine Sisterhood for supplies and a $500 match, Alissa Neil P.R. for their publicity work, and Little Rhody Press for donating drawing paper. We are so lucky to work with you and appreciate your shared enthusiasm for our cause!

For those who are curious about when we’re shipping the drawings—we’re hoping to get everything in the mail by December 4th, so you’ll receive it in time for the holiday. Due to the positive response, we’re already planning good things for next year’s draw-a-thon. WATCH OUT and stay updated here via our tumblr OYG Draw!

Draw-a-Thon

Will Draw For Food

This past week was very hard for us in the NE and NYC got hit pretty hard. We want to put our drawings skills to use for a good cause and feed some hungry folks out there who really need it.

Donate $20 or more to benefit the NYC Food Bank and we’ll send you a custom illustration created by one of our talented artists during our one day Draw-A-Thon on Novemeber 16th. We’ll be taking donations up until that day. So don’t wait!

Want to put your talents to good use and be an official illustrator for the event? Let us know!

Oh Sandy, you broke our hearts but you have not broken our spirits.

Bathroom Magazines 2

Here is a new batch of bathroom magazine doodles fresh from the john!

Steve Hsu’s Orange

My friend Steve has this uniquely discolored orange sitting on his desk and posted it to facebook.

Bathroom Magazines: Pure Gold

And the winner is…

At last week’s SVA internship fair we had a contest which was this: Draw the thing that you are most glad for on a piece of paper. Whoever wins gets a prize mailed to their house and is featured here, on our super awesome blog. People were glad for many things including friendship, money and dogs’ ears. I am glad for the never-ending supply of Polish chocolates in our office and the 2 seasons of Sons of Anarchy that are still waiting for me in my queue.

There is one though that stood out for us from a lovely student named Boseon Kim:

As Professor Slughorn said to Harry in his Potions class when he won a bottle of Flex Felicis, “The clear winner!” What did it for me was the fat smiley orange and sweeties on the cover. As everyone knows, candy is surely the way to my heart. Congrats Boseon!

Bathroom Magazines

Working with the lovely ladies of OrangeYouGlad is really fun and silly times are frequent. Usually I feel right at home with them except for a tinge here and there that reminds me that I am a boyMAN. Awhile ago I had one of these moments when sifting through our magazines in the bathroom. To pass the time, I decided to take a pen to the older issues. Here is one of the dreary fake blah blah blah stock photo covers I couldn’t help but graffiti. Typographic help from Veronica.

Things we love

Sometimes the things we make don’t get any love. Even from everyone except one person in the office. Well, I love you sausage monkey! I LOVE YOUUUU!

Donate your lunch money & get a kitty (picture).

I read this article in the NY Times yesterday about the hunger crisis in Somalia and found myself wanting to do something to help. My thinking is that if we all donate $10 (one day’s lunch) to my little fundraiser via Mercy Corp we can raise $1k in no time.

As a bit of encouragement , I’m offering some schwagg.
if you donate $10 – I’ll send you a little kitty drawing
if you donate $20 or more – I’ll send you a little kitty painting (like those shown below)

If you make a donation be sure to include your name / email at Mercy Corp (or if you prefer to remain anonymous email me- tammy@orangeyouglad.com) so I can follow up with you to get your address.

Shameless Cross Posting

Did these little paintings the other day and posted them over at XTRAPULP/SLURP. OYG’s not terribly active but fun to look at illustration blog.

You can see a few more plus some new ones by our 423 neighbor Erin Shigaki.
